Gas Safe registered engineers
Why your engineer must be Gas Safe registered, how to check any engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and GasStar’s own Gas Safe registration details.
What is the Gas Safe Register?
The Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas businesses and engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas in Great Britain. By law, anyone carrying out gas work in your home must be on the register.
Why it matters
Gas appliances that are badly fitted, repaired or maintained can leak gas or produce carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas you can’t see, smell or taste. Using a registered engineer means the person working in your home is qualified for that type of gas work.
How to check any gas engineer
- Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card. It has their photo, licence number and the business they work for.
- Turn the card over. The back lists the types of gas work they’re qualified to do, such as boilers, cookers or gas fires. Check it covers your job.
- Check the register online at gassaferegister.co.uk, or call the Gas Safe Register on 0800 408 5500.
